UAW, AFSCME, and AFL-CIO Endorse Kristy Pagan for State Representative

Organized Labor is on Team Kristy6/27/14

This week, Democrat Kristy Pagan announced several major endorsements for her campaign for State Representative from UAW Region 1A, AFSCME Council 25, and the Michigan AFL-CIO. Kristy is seeking to hold an open seat being vacated by term-limited Representative Dian Slavens. The 21st house district represents the communities of Canton, Belleville and Van Buren Township in the Michigan legislature.

“Kristy is our candidate because she is a proven leader who stands up for working families. Kristy will fight to maintain fair standards of living, for labor families in MI,” said Rory Gamble, Director of UAW Region 1A.

“As the daughter of two union members, I have spent my entire life fighting to improve the quality of life for working families in Michigan. It is a tremendous honor to be endorsed by the hard-working men and women of UAW Region 1A and the Michigan AFL-CIO,” said Kristy, a Canton native running to represent her hometown district. “I am proud to have organized labor stand with me as I work hard to listen to my community, engage young people in the political process, and earn support from my neighbors. I will continue to advocate for fair labor standards, a substantial increase to the minimum wage, and the repeal of “Right to Work" for less.

“We are supporting Kristy because she has been, and will continue to be, a strong voice for Michigan’s working men and women,” said Michigan AFL-CIO President Karla Swift

Today’s announcement adds to the growing support for Kristy’s campaign. She has earned additional labor support from the Sheet Metal Workers Local 80, UFCW Local 876, and UNITE HERE! Local 24, as well as support from national organizations, including the Women’s Campaign Fund, Progressive Majority, and LaunchProgress.
